Funded Cross-institutional Mentorship & Bioethics Conference Opportunities ("CUSP")

Funded Cross-institutional Mentorship & Bioethics Conference Opportunities ("CUSP")

I am writing with two opportunities (one for faculty/professionals, the other for your undergraduates) to be involved in the 5th year of "CUSP", the Cross-Institutional Undergraduate Sponsorship Program in Bioethics.  CUSP is designed to promote representativeness in the next generation of bioethicists.  It does so by providing financial support, one-to-one and group mentorship, and networking opportunities to competitively-selected undergraduates (especially students from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in bioethics) so that they can further their bioethics-related professional goals by attending the American Society for Bioethics & Humanities conference and other related opportunities.  More information about the program is available here: http://links.emory.edu/CUSP

To facilitate the promotion of this program to undergraduates, I attach a flyer image and text below my email signature that you can share with students and colleagues via email, listserv, and/or social media.  Please circulate widely!

We are also looking for faculty and other bioethics professionals to join the CUSP selection committee, which is chaired by Dr. Lindsey Grubbs (Case Western Reserve University).  This will involve reviewing applications in August.  For your reference, you can find the 2025 application form here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CUSPApplication2025

If you would like to be involved in reviewing applications this year, please email a CV or 2-4 sentence statement of interest that states your role and your aptitude to engage in CUSP review to joanna.young@emory.edu

Interested in bioethics and the opportunity to attend the nation's largest annual conference in Portland this October?  To support the next generation of bioethicists, the Cross-Institutional Undergraduate Sponsorship ("CUSP") in Bioethics will support selected undergraduate students to attend this year's American Society for Bioethics & Humanities (ASBH) conference in Portland, OR from October 22-25, 2025.  Cross-institutional financial support will enable us to provide the following for selected students: (i) conference registration, (ii) up to $500 in travel costs to Portland, (iii) shared accommodation near the conference and (iv) some meals.  In addition, there will be cross-institutional mentorship of selected students, including a mentor both during and after the conference as well as a pre-conference Zoom workshop.  If you are an undergraduate and this cross-institutional mentorship opportunity would further your academic and professional goals, please find out more information about our program and application process here: http://links.emory.edu/CUSP
We welcome applications from all undergraduates, no matter your major, university, or background.  The application review committee values representativeness and is working to ensure bioethics is accessible to and supportive of students of backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in bioethics.

Applications are due by August 22, 2025. If you have any questions or wish to apply but cannot submit by the deadline, please email mabioethics@emory.edu
