2nd Sawyier Philosophy Conference on Ethics of Technology: Promises and Perils

The Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago is hosting a conference exploring philosophical, ethical, societal, and legal issues related to technology. We invite submissions addressing topics connected to philosophy and ethics of technology broadly construed from a variety of philosophical areas, including applied ethicsphilosophy of science, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, metaphysics, epistemology, phenomenology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of law, environmental philosophy, and more. We also welcome submissions from science and technology studiesenvironmental humanities, and other interdisciplinary fields engaging with topics relevant to the conference theme, as well as nontraditional presentation formats such as film and performance art. 

 

Submissions should be anonymized and contain the paper title and a 250-word abstract (maximum length). 

 

Please send submissions and questions to Kelly Laas at laas@illinoistech.edu, and include “2025 Sawyier Conference Submission” in the subject of the email. 

 

If your abstract is accepted, you will be invited to give a 15–20-minute presentation followed by 5-10 minutes of Q & A. The conference will be held in-person at the main campus of Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois 

  

Participation and attendance for this event is free, but registration is required. We ask each participant to limit themselves to one submission.  

 

Please expect to hear back regarding your submission one week after the submission deadline.
