Ethics Bowl Season Launch: September 2  This year's Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl season will launch on Wednesday, September 2. On that date, teams will be able to register for their regional competitions and a new set of cases will be released.All of the regionals will have a three-week initial registration period with specific registration instructions. There is a $150 APPE Registration fee for all schools participating, and in most cases, a regional registration fee that goes to the regional hosts. Stay tuned for more details about the regionals, which are still being finalized.

Ken Pimple APPE RISE Memorial Fund  Longtime APPE member and APPE RISE colleague Kenneth D. Pimple, PhD, died on September 2, 2025 in Ithaca, NY, following a long illness. He was 64. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 31 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington, Indiana. Ken's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ken's memory to a variety of organizations, one of which is APPE. A memorial fund has been set up in Ken's name so that donations can be made to honor his legacy, and support the APPE RISEsm Consortium, which promotes education and research on research ethics, research integrity, and the responsible conduct of research. In a case you can find in the IEB archives (sorted by theme), students are encouraged to think about the tension betwen human compassion for (and interest in) animals and the need to avoid harmful interference in wildlife.
